Compassion is not simply feeling differently about homelessness. It is being willing to do something differently because of what we now understand.
Your ticket today did more than give you a seat in the theater, it helped fund a local nonprofit doing the work on the ground. Because of your contribution, they can reach more of our city’s most vulnerable neighbors with the support, compassion, and resources they need.
But we know the story doesn’t end when the credits roll.
Thank you for joining us for a showing of 24 Hours of 8th Street.
The challenges facing our unhoused neighbors are bigger than any one organization can solve. Our local nonprofits need all of us, our time, our talents, and our treasure, now more than ever.
So today, we’re asking you to take on your own 24 Hours Challenge.
Maybe you’ll volunteer 24 hours with a local organization. Maybe you’ll commit to giving $24 a month. Maybe you’ll create a project, organize your friends, donate supplies, or find your own meaningful way to show up.
Whatever you choose, we want to hear your story. How are you choosing to show up for Sioux Falls?
Each one of the non-profits shown is doing important work in our community, and each could use your help. Please consider stepping up and supporting them in whatever way you can.
And most importantly, remember that sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do doesn’t require money or an organization.
Sit down next to someone experiencing homelessness. Listen to them. Walk with them to wherever they’re going next. Ask if they need a bottle of water, a pair of shoes, or simply a moment of kindness. See them. Know their name. Treat them with the dignity every one of us deserves.
We can’t solve this crisis alone. But we can choose to show up for one another.
24 hours. One city. All of us.
Let’s show what it means to be Sioux Fallsian.
