Our Houses
Main Shelter
On March 15, 1987, the St. Francis House opened its doors to the homeless of Sioux Falls. The building which houses the shelter is owned by the Catholic Diocese, the use of which was provided by the late Bishop Paul Dudley. Pastor David Holm, through a fund established by First Lutheran Church, provided the original operating monies. Together the late Bishop Dudley and Pastor Holm worked to make the St. Francis House a reality.
Dudley Duplex
In 2003, the St. Francis House began to observe an increase in the number of homeless families in our community. The St. Francis House opened the Dudley Duplex to provide emergency housing for homeless families with children.
Tri-Plex
On February 18th, 2009 the St.Francis House opened three more transitional units for homeless families in our community. The City of Sioux Falls encouraged another non-profit
agency to approach the St. Francis House to transfer a three unit apartment complex to us. These units had been vacant for a lengthy period of time and needed to be remodeled and furnished.
Multi Family Housing/Quad
In December, 2009 the St. Francis House opened our newly constructed Multi-Family Housing Project to provide transitional housing for four more homeless families in our community. This project was a community effort between our neighbors, businesses and the Helmsley Foundation.
